Well, sort of. I bought a new internal hard drive (120 GB) a while back, tried installing, and couldn't get the computer to recognize it. As much as I like computers, my knowledge doesn't go that far beyond casual use. Especially when it comes to hardware.

But it's installed now!

After looking through the Dell User Guide, I became inspired by the diagrams (why does everything seem so easy when you're looking at the instructions, but when it comes to doing, it all seems immensely complicated?) So my father and I redid it, and there I solved the problem.

It wasn't plugged in. ::facepalms::

I feel like the subject of one of those tech support horror stories.

But in my defense, I did suspect that the problem had to do with lack of power. I just didn't feel like getting into my CPU case again (Hey, ignoring the problem is a tried and true method) and I didn't notice that the power supply wires had extra plugs attached because they had covers over them. I'm also afraid that messing around in there too much will screw everything up. Kind of like brain surgery, you don't want to play around in there unless you know what you're doing.

Now I just have to partition and format the disk. I'm also considering making it my primary hard drive because it's all fast and fancy but I may become intimidated by all the extra effort and possible complications. Hm, I wonder if LJ has any tech help communities?
