I had first heard about this yesterday but as it was just posted on someone's LJ, I was a little wary (didn't want to get my hopes up) but Entertainment Weekly has confirmed it on their website, so I'm just going with it.
Apparently New Line is going to re-release LOTR: FOTR & TTT (the extended editions) in theaters to gear things up for the release of ROTK!
From the EW article (you need a code/subscription/aol): ''Lord of the Rings'' fanatics will get an early Christmas present this year. The extended DVD cuts of the first entries in the fantasy franchise will return to theaters two weeks before the Dec. 17 release of ''The Lord of the Rings: The Return of The King,'' according to Variety. ''Fellowship of the Rings'' will hit theaters the week of Dec. 5, followed by ''The Two Towers'' the next week.
The films will open in limited release -- on about 150 screens nationwide -- and New Line doesn't expect to add much to their already formidable grosses, Variety reported. ''These events are produced as a marketing/publicity stunt and not as a revenue-generating opportunity,'' the company said in a memo. Still, they probably won't turn away any cash they do conjure.
I'll still be up in Seattle during all this. The best part, I've heard, is that on December 16th, select theaters will show FOTR, TTT, then ROTK (as the midnight type showing). And I'm pretty sure the Cinerama would be the one doing as it's one of the best in Seattle.
Details are on TheOneRing.net here.

I've never realized how much goes into digital retouching for magazines and such. I knew that they smoothed things down, but I was looking through this guy's digital porfolio and damn... I was shocked. If you look at the two women (each end of the second row) you'll be amazed at what they really look like. No wonder girls have self-esteem issues. They made the already skinny bathing suit model even skinnier (yet her boobs got a little bigger).
