Things that puzzle me pt. 2

Someone reminded me of this. I was out with my friend and her friends, who fall on the more innocent side of the spectrum.

One girl called this guy something, which the others took as a bad word but she didn't understand the big deal and didn't even remember what she called him. Finally it took one other girl to whisper to her the word that she heard (pussy) and the the girl was like "Oh yeah, I did call him that" with a sort of nochalance. The others were like, "Um... You do know that's sort of a bad word" Her response "What? What's wrong with it? What does it really mean?" and said that she meant it as akin to wussy. Then I got really confused by the fact that there could be polite meaning to that word. Then it took too many minutes to explain what it actually refers to which involved gestures and vague terms (and these were college students...) until I finally burst out with the word they kept circling. Then we had to explain to her that it's sort of vulgar and derogatory to call people that. I still find this boggling.

You have no idea how tempting it is to go on a long ramble about the virtues and vices of pussy and various other words, such as, oh, muffin, to use an innocent one, but I'm worried about offending you.

Still, a neat story. I am appropriately boggled.
