Apparently it angries up the blood.
Okay, there's bitterness, and then there's BITTERNESS. Is there something about the Buffyverse fandom that breeds the latter type?
Did you know ME hates them personally? Really. It's all about them. All the time and effort they put into watching the show, ME just doesn't appreciate it. ME's only goal in life is to screw with them in the worst way possible by doing everything they hate. (I vaguely remember one person complaining in her "I give up" letter that she was a fan of Btvs for many years/had watched it religiously/had gotten other people to watch it, and they betrayed her.)
I know that not all bitter people check logic and rationality at the door, but some of them are so vitriolic, so hostile, that the give the rest of them a bad name. No matter what takes place, how any of the shows go, they'll find something to hate or they'll make the most worst interpretation possible. If something isn't explained immediately, it must be a plot hole. If they do, they'll say something like "We get it!" or "We're not stupid!" or "What happened to subtlety?"
A lot of them seem to hate Spike a lot. Which I say, to each their own. But that's not enough. After they state how much they hate him, and how he ruined every show known to man, they'll then start on belittling his fans. That's usually where they bring the oh so original stereotype that Spike fans are only interested in his cheekbones, abs, *insert body part here* and that they lack the capability to see anything else ("The man only has a few years of marketability left before even the most devoted Spike fans will start finding him old and disgusting.")
What much of it seems to boil down to, though, is that Joss Whedon is the devil. He eats babies. He's Marti Noxon's puppet master. He's a complete hack. He wrote the screenplay to Glitter. The fact that his heavy involvement in S2/S3 resulted in great work was a complete fluke. I think he tripped on a keyboard and out came the arc for Season 2.
And guess what? He killed Glenn Quinn.
From the Angel thread on Fametracker:
"Fuck Whedon. I can't stand the guy (Whedon, not Quinn). Maybe if he didn't kill off Doyle, the actor would still be alive today? If he had sent the character off to another dimension, leaving the opportunity open for a return visit, the actor may have had something to look forward to? Maybe. But we'll never know."
He just can't do anything right.
