Was neat. It was kind of weird at first meeting these people because you only know of them through this tenuous connection on the internet. I was waiting by the fountain at the Seattle Center, wondering how I was supposed to find anybody. We had just said meet there, and hey, there turned out to be a really big circle. You end up standing there awkwardly, glancing at other people around you, wondering if they're waiting for the con or just innocent bystanders. I ended up asking a girl nearby if she was waiting for something from the internet, and luckily enough, she was. I'm really glad I was spared the strange looks from asking clueless strangers if they're from the internet. Anyway, we found each other (clumping, though it helped that we were the only ones standing out in the rain) and hung out waiting for latecomers.
The group was nice. Had a lot of reality TV show fans, CSI, Buffy (though seemingly of the bitter variety) Found one woman who is also going to the Buffy/sci fi convention and getting an autograph from James Marsters, so we're gonna try and find each other there. (And I'm also meeting some other internet folk, of the AOL Buffy boards. Man, this is my week for internet people.) So next week should be fun.
We went to see Lion King at the IMAX theater, which was interesting, but I'm not sure if it was worth the IMAX treatment. I mean, IMAX is great for detail. Watching live action on that huge screen was amazing, because you could see such great depth (and soemtimes not so great). But with animation it's like, you just see a lot of color and pen lines. Plus some of the shading and such works a lot better on a smaller screen where it blends. Sometimes it was like staring at a huge representation of one of Monet's paintings, all you saw were the dots and not the big picture.
After that, we got something ate at the EMP's Turntable. Okay restaurant, not too much choice in food, and charges an 18% gratuity for large group. Won't be eating there again. Our bill turned out to be around 267 dollars.
Overall, just a lot of fun. Found a girl who likes seeing bad movies (who also wants to Vanilla Ice's movie: Cool as Ice), playing board games (including the Buffy game)... And TWOP just breeds snarky people. After the IMAX, some were snarking on some little kids who had made some fashion mistakes. Go us. Show those little kids who's boss. A thing I really liked was being able to reference the internet without having to worry about sounding scary. My friends have given me enough weird looks.
