Every Batch Brewed From Scratch
Jan. 13th, 2003 07:06 pmMy poor subway sandwhich. It has been abused mightily. It's a little limp now.
I'm in a really cheerful mood today. Saw a darling little beagle puppy on my way to class. Ate a yummy lunch at Orange King. Played on the web before one of my more interesting classes. Followed a guy wearing a long skirt back for as long as I could. (It amused me so. Plus, there are infinite ways of going back to my dorm, I just decided to take one with interesting sights.) I then hung out, then skipped merrily back to my freshman seminar. But I forgot it started at 5 instead of 5:30 so I was a little late. Then after the class, I stood bored in line for Subway and then discovered it had started raining. And me with a hood or an umbrella walked home trying to keep my notebook dry under my coat. So my cheerful mood is a little bruised.
However, I think I have completely recovered upon discovering that Powerstar is selling Buffy valentines. Two versions, foil and nonfoil. And the prices are reasonable. I love powerstar. Now with my LOTR:TTT valentine cards, I'll be even cooler. Go me.
On the class front, I'm oddly motivated. Even optimistic. I like all my classes, and they're all interesting in some form (especially after I dropped Geography which bored me to death. Though no more angry New Zealander for a TA. I liked his accent.) After much debating and indecisiveness, I decided to keep Weather. It's a science credit, and I'm actually interested in the subject matter even though it may kick my ass mightily. I even finished the homework that's due this Thursday, last Thursday, except for one problem. And I spend hours studying when I don't have to. Bizarre.
I love Psychology, which is endlessly interesting. The teacher is great. Who cares about the 4 midterms. I'm amused by this one experiment they did on the placebo effect and people acting as drunk as they thought they were as opposed to how they actually were. They were given covered drinks filled with orange juice, with a petridish of a little vodka on top. People would drink out of straw, smell the vodka, then begin to act drunk. One girl who took it was even a grad psych student and she ended up too drunk to drive home.
Imagine doing this to your friends.
My other two classes (Freshman seminar on GLBT Issues and Greek and Latin words in current use) are pretty good. Memorization is something I can handle and the GLBT thing is okay. I learned a new thing. Look up "hanky code" on google.
This quarter will be painful though, especially with 9 midterms (Well 3 call themselves "quizzes" but in a 2 credit class and lots of memorization, they're essentially midterms) and 3 finals (The psych one is optional but I'm taking it anyway since it'll replace a bad midterm grade)
