Ducka Ducka Ducka
Sep. 8th, 2002 01:34 amReally, how I have gotten into a show having only watched two episodes and the finale? It's all Kelly's fault. She is so damn cute.
I thought I had escaped the addictiveness that is American Idol. I watched the Big Band episode only for Firefly promos and was charmed by Kelly's rendition of Stuff Like That There. I eventually downloaded some mp3s and that seemed to be that. (okay, so I occasionally rewatched my recording of that episode but that meant nothing, honest)
Time passed, I always missed the AI eps until I heard that the last one was coming up and it was Kelly vs Sideshow Bob (uh, oops, I mean Justin) I did watch that and they sang some cheesy pop-y songs that were especially written for them and Kelly sang Aretha's Respect which was awww... Then the finale came on the next day where the results were supposed to be announced. And that's where I got hooked. They had a retrospective thing covering a lot of what happened early in the show... Like bad auditions (Hee. These were some of the best parts of the show. Like Stoned Silent Night Guy (from TWOP) who's 15 second claim to fame was his version of Silent Night. He sat there looking stoned and sang in a monotone voice: "Si-uhlent Night, I said-uh, Holy Night")
Then they had the actual finale which is what got me. (Celebs were there, I saw Alexis Denisof and Alyson Hannigan behind Tiffany) Loads of cheesy goodness. They started with group sings (which were very reminiscent of the Brady Bunch Variety Hour) and so I got to see some of the voted off singers (not really impressed, btw). Heh, the girls were the strongest singers and the guys were more like a boy band (on the O-town side of the spectrum). It was all amusing though. First they did 60s mix and then motown. They danced and frolicked. Kelly was cute throughout. During one of her duets, one of the things she said to try and get the audience involved was "If you don't stand up, you are a party pooper" It was funny. She won and acted so great. And now I like Sideshow Bob in relation to Kelly because he took it so well when discovering Kelly won. (They are apparently close) He was hugging and congratulating her without any bitterness. They made her sing the song she was supposed to be releasing (A moment like this) and her performance was awwwww-inspiring. She wasn't able to get some of the lyrics out because she was so teary and during the last part of the song, on the line: "I can't believe this is happening to me" she injected so much feeling into it that I nearly got teary myself. It was crying mayhem in the theater. Kelly's parents cried. Debra something from Mad TV cried... Even the group (who had come in as back up vocals for the final verse) broke into tears as they converged on Kelly and formed a big hug. She couldn't even get the last line out and needed help from some of the other girls.
Uh, so all that just shows how much I adore Kelly now. Somehow she just charms people. She's sweet but not so nice that you want to smack her. She's classy. She's a great singer...
Man, because of all this, I've read through a huge amount of TWOP's American Idol boards. I've downloaded some of the songs performed during the finale. I've watched my recording of it more than once. And I'm gonna watch AI2.
Shoot me, I'm a dork.
