Graduation

I just graduated from high school today. It still hasn't completely sunk in. I know, come Monday morning I'll wake up at 6:24 and jump up in a mad rush trying to get ready before the bus comes.

And because I'm in a strangely talkative mood, I'll post a long recounting.

First there were issues with who was going. I only planned for my aunt and my parents, knowing my relationship with my brothers (we aren't close at all. My impression of it is that we hate each other, talk only when absolutely necessary, and pretend we don't exist to each other at all times)

So I didn't expect them to go. (Why would anyone want to go voluntarily unless they are really close to the graduate? I mean, you come in, try to find a seat in a madhouse, wait long times until you see the graduate walk to their seat, wait again watching your graduate sit there and listen to boring speeches by people you most likely don't care about, then finally when the big moment comes, you watch them go up a couple steps, get a diploma case and shake hands with someone you probably don't know. You finally watch them sit back down to wait until the long list is done being called) All the while, you are being subjected to people in close spaces and others who are hooting and hollering in your ear because they can't listen to simple directions that state to shut your ass up when the roll is being called so everybody can hear the names but then since it's their daughter or son they get special privileges. Except since everybody is there for that type of reason, shouldn't they get it through their fat heads that they suck? Anyway, after all that is done, you watch them file out while you leave to wait outside for them to finally come out.)

I was then surprised by my brother's girlfriend, asking me if she and my brother could go. I said okay, then saved tickets for them and gave away the rest. Then I found out the morning of the graduation that my other brother expected to go. And since I had no tickets left, he wasn't able to. So he was pissed because it would have been rude to the gf who had asked (and had given me celebratory flowers) and had planned on going. So my parents and I left a little late and arrived 10 minutes after I was supposed to be there.

So we arrived at 8:40 (the graduation starts at 10AM), five minutes before the doors would open to let the audience in, and I had told them, naively, that they could go out to breakfast and leisurely come back when the doors opened. However, people being how they are, there was already a really long line (from the entrance, going through the small courtyard, reaching the street then going down the sidewalk) so my parents, being over an hour early, still had to sit in the back.

The graduates got ready blah blah blah, we came in and sat down and they started with the speeches. The valedictorian speech was okay, nothing special. They collaborated and had their own parts.

Then Mr Sherry (the principal) came out and then likened us to Star Wars. (apparently, he does this (a movie) every year?) Really really weird and a bad analogy. He was all , how we're like Anakin who was facing troubles and had to grow up and take responsibility and stuff and he was important (and so were we) because he would bring balance to the force. (huh? We're going to eventually turn evil, take on the role of overlord and decimate millions of people?) Then he brought up how clones were like the terrorists because in the general series they were the bad guys (And huh again... Since he was specifically referring to AOTC, his analogy would actually be that the terrorists are helping us and currently do our bidding)

Then the class president came out, gave a cliche ridden speech (Uh, "Climb the highest mountain? Swim the deepest oceans? We can do anything?" etc...) after all of that, we got our diplomas and left.
