was orientation bearable? Yes. Very. I did have fun and liked being on campus. I dislike that "getting to know you" stuff and I didn't suffer that much. A lot of it depends on what orientation leader you get. Their preferences, etc... Like mine liked to put us in groups and have us present stuff in front of everybody else (like what we learned from the issues in the play and we only did it twice) but that usually ended up being one person in the group talking and the rest pretending to care. So if you just vaguely participate, you can usually get by. But really, none of it was major and most of our time was spent going to the workshops. The BBQ wasn't really an "activity" type thing. They put out this big spread, we got in line, grabbed our food (if you see round patties of something that you don't think is a hamburger, avoid it...) and sat down somewhere on the lawn and ate (they did play music). When they gave us this big chunk of freetime you could join in a game or something or just go somewhere alone.
was the roommate assigned to you for orientation going to be your roommate for the school year?
Nope. It was a completely random pick from the people who went to that orientation.
did you get to meet with your advisor to register for the classes?
I personally didn't meet with my advisor but I noticed some other people did have appointments. I'm not sure how that worked (if someone had one, it was written on the sticker put on the UW binders that were given out).
If you have anymore questions about orientation, feel free.
One thing though, isn't Sept 29 the Freshman convocation?
